Western Japan Spring photography
On the first half of the tour, we will spend three consecutive nights in Kyoto City, allowing you to take your time and enjoy photographing the most famous ancient capital of Japan, Kyoto in the spring. Your hotel in Kyoto is located in the Gion district, close to Yasaka Shrine and Higashiyama, the old historical district. This could even allow you to visit these areas by yourself on foot in the early morning or at night if you wish. We will be visiting the popular Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari Shrine in the early morning hours to avoid the crowds. Paul will take you to many other wonderful hidden gems for photography in Kyoto. The places will be determined after checking the best cherry blossom blooming locations on that day.
During the middle part of the tour, we will be visiting Nara, another historical city of Japan. Which was in fact Japan’s first capital city and the seat of the Emperor in the 8th Century. We will visit & photograph the world renowned free-roaming deer in Nara Park and the world famous Todaiji temple where the largest Buddha statue in Japan is enshrined.
On our 2nd day in Nara, we are going to visit Mt. Yoshino, which has been Japan's most famous cherry blossom viewing spot for many centuries. Today this mountain is covered by approximately 30,000 cherry blossom trees of many different varieties, especially of the Yamazakura variety.
The last portion of our tour, we will take the Shinkansen (Bullet train) to Hiroshima and Miyajima island where the famous Itsukushima shrine is located, also ranked as one of the “Three Scenic Views of Japan.” Here we will stroll the boardwalks and visit the shrine itself. The name Itsukushima literally means 'island of worship' from ancient times the island itself was worshipped as a god. A truly exceptional place listed as a World Heritage site. The highlight, rising out of the sea, is the shrines famous torii gate, a wonderful symbol of Miyajima.
We will also visit Kintaikyo Bridge in the Yamaguchi prefecture. This dragon back bridge is one of the three most famous bridges in all of Japan and is well known for its beautiful five-arched wooden construction, with an impressive total length of 200 meters.

A red torii gate also proudly sits off the shore. After the photography session, you will be able to spent in Miyajima as much as you like to enjoy your self-photography. Itsukushima Shrine involves the water over which it is built, it is good to be aware of the timings of the tides during your visit. At high tide the shrine and its gate appear to float above the water, and this is certainly the time at which they are most picturesque. At low tide, the water drains out of the bay. This is when you can take the opportunity to walk out and see the gate from up close.
