Caving the Mysterious Okinoerabu Island
Innumerable caves, which are thought to number more than 200 to 300, spread out around Okinoerabu Island. They have recently been attracting attention as a famous caving spot. We will help beginners explore two caves with support from an experienced guide, the Rimstone Cave (about 2 hours) for beginners and the Ginsuido (about 5 hours), which is one of the most beautiful in Japan. Neither is a cave altered for sightseeing, so there are no lighting or well-maintained trails. Under the careful guidance of a professional guide, enjoy this adventurous cave diving experience, with the provided safety gear like headlamps and coveralls. You will sometimes have to walk along the river which flows through the cave; and at other times, climb on all fours to get up and down on the rocky paths to explore the cave. You will see many natural beautiful structures one after another, like stalactites and stalagmites, that took many years to form. This kind of spelunking is something you can’t experience in your daily life, so why not give it a go while visiting the Island?
Sea Turtle Snorkeling With A High Encounter Rate
During the high tide, many green sea turtles come to eat the seaweed in the shallow water and can also be seen from land. We will go snorkeling at low tide so we can observe them very closely. Green sea turtles that eat seaweed on the rocks of the ocean floor, must surface on a regular basis to breath. Once you find one, stay relaxed and observe it calmly, waiting at the surface of the sea to observe what it is doing, and as they slowly come to the surface you can swim with the sea turtles. There are many turtles that have gotten accustomed to snorkelers and have no fear of humans, so you can see them up close very easily. They are around all year but in July and August, due to their nesting season, the chance of encountering sea turtles is even greater.
